VCS Editorial Meeting at the 68th IAVS Annual Symposium in Gijón, Spain
Between 22-26 June, Gijón, Spain played host to the 68th Annual Symposium of the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS), welcoming 465 participants from 49 countries for five extraordinary days under the theme "Understanding Ecosystems Through Vegetation."
The symposium provided an excellent venue for researchers, editors, and practitioners from across the globe to come together and discuss the latest advances in vegetation science, exchange ideas on classification methods and ecosystem monitoring, and strengthen the international community built around plant community ecology. More details about the event can be found on Pensoft's blog.
A Productive Conversation about Vegetation Classification and Survey's Future
On 25 June, Pensoft Publishers and VCS had a productive annual editorial meeting, sitting down with members of the journal's editorial board, the IAVS Governing Board, and various Associate Editors, Guest Editors, and Editorial Review Board members for a candid discussion about the journal's current position and its prospects for future growth.
Discussions touched on the journal's remarkable growth, ways to further raise its international visibility, and ideas for attracting even more high-quality submissions from the vegetation science community worldwide.
Five years after our launch, we are boasting a 2025 Scopus CiteScore of 4.7, up from 3.6 the year before, and VCS is now ranked Q1 across all the categories in which we are indexed. This growth reflects the increasing relevance of vegetation classification research to pressing global challenges, from biodiversity conservation to land-use planning in a changing climate.
It was, above all, a chance to plan the next steps together, ensuring that VCS continues to serve as a leading platform for vegetation classification and survey research in the years ahead.
Looking Ahead
With a growing reputation, a great CiteScore, and an engaged, active editorial board, Vegetation Classification and Survey is well positioned to keep expanding our role at the heart of the global vegetation science community.
On behalf of Pensoft, we thank the IAVS community and VCS' editorial board for a productive and inspiring symposium in Gijón, and we look forward to our continued growth in the years to come!
