NOW OUT: Vegetation Classification and Survey newsletter, January 2023

08 February 2023

With the first journal newsletter for 2023, the Editors-in-Chief take the time to celebrate the successful completion of the third year for Vegetation Classification and Survey (VCS) on the scholarly scene, but also share the latest novelties and exciting news around the academic outlet and its community.

The 8th VCS newsletter looks back on the 2022 journal volume and the key publications in it. In addition, the Chief Editors also comment on the recent publication of “the most comprehensive system of ecological indicator values in Europe so far, called EIVE 1.0, as an open access database,” which presents the result of a 7-year work by 34 vegetation ecologists and plant taxonomists.

Then, Jürgen Dengler, Idoia Biurrun, Florian Jansen and Wolfgang Willne go on to welcome five new vegetation scientists who are joining the Editorial Board. Since 1st January 2023, the journal has been enjoying the contributions of the Subject Editors Manfred Finckh (University of Hamburg, Germany), Changcheng Liu (Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing), Ricarda Pätsch (Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic), Dariia Shyriaieva (The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv) and the Linguistic Editor Hallie Seiler (Zurich University of Applied Science, Switzerland).

However, the Chief Editors remind that there is still a lot of room left at the Editorial Board of VCS, given that the journal is growing fast as it has just began its fourth year on the scholarly scene. So, applications for the Editorial Board are still very much welcome throughout 2023, too!

As they wrap up the 2022 overview, the Editors-in-Chief take a moment to walk the readers through the latest novelties seen on the VCS website, such as the News section on the homepage, and the improved search engine, which now lets everyone to sort the articles not only by date of publication and views count, but also by number of citations and trendiness in the last period.

Another two editorial meetings - this time planned as in-person events - are to take place, firstly, during the 31st Conference of the European Vegetation Survey happening from 21st to 25th May in Rome, Italy; and, then, within the 65th Annual IAVS Symposium between 4th and 8th September in New South Wales, Australia.

The Chief Editors also promise an Editor manual for the Associate and Guest Editors at VCS.
