Vegetation Classification and Survey Receives its First Journal Impact Factor

23 June 2025

Vegetation Classification and Survey has received its first ever Journal Impact Factor, 3.0, five years since the journal’s foundation. With that, VCS is placed in the second quartile (Q2) of all its subject categories in the Web of Science.

In late June, Clarivate released the 2025 Journal Citation Report (JCR). The report reflects how many times content published in a particular journal in 2022 and 2023 was cited in the last complete year: 2024. Then, this total count is divided by the number of “citable” (i.e. research and review) articles to estimate the JIF for the year.

Earlier in June, Vegetation Classification and Survey received its 2024 Scopus CiteScore, 3.6, which represents a significant increase from the previous value of 2.5. Notably, the journal has moved up into Q1 in the Scopus categories: Agricultural and Biological Sciences (miscellaneous); Plant Science; Ecology, Evolution, Behavior and Systematics.

The latest JIF, alongside the current Scopus CiteScore and CiteScore Tracker are conveniently displayed on the journal website’s homepage. They also appear in the journal’s newsletter.

“We are delighted to see the journal receive its first Impact Factor. We expect that both Journal Impact Factor and CiteScore will further increase in 2026.

“Thanks to all our editors, reviewers and authors who made this success possible and to IAVS for subsidizing the APCs of VCS during the first few years. We look forward to receiving more high-quality submissions in the fields of vegetation classification and ecoinformatics, the two strongholds of VCS.”

- Jürgen Dengler, Idoia Biurrun and Wolfgang Willner, VCS Chief Editors.
